  • How do I book a session?
    Easily, just drop us a message via our contact page with a brief description of the project, your phone number, email address and we'll reach out to discuss all the ins and outs then look to book something in :)
  • Where exactly are you located?
    Townsend street, on Penn An Dre in Truro, Cornwall UK.
  • What are your studio times?
    We are quite flexible but generally can work between the hours of 9am - 9pm (Monday to Saturday)
  • Can I book a session in the evening?
    Yes, absolutely. We understand that some clients can only attend sessions in the evening and our team is happy to accommodate.
  • How far in advance do I need to book?
    Ideally 2-3 weeks in advance, however dependent on the urgency of the deadline we can move things around to accommodate deadlines.
  • How do I make payment?
    You can make a payment with cash, cheque, bank transfer or PayPal (however there is a 5% charge when paying through PayPal). We do ask for a 50% upfront payment to secure a session slot, as this is locked just for you so no other client can use it.
  • What Should I bring to the Session?
    You can bring anything you like. Depending on what you plan to record, you can bring your own instruments and equipment. However, our studio / live room is equipped with a drum kit, guitars (acoustic, classical, electric, bass) and amplifiers, as well as a wide range of microphones and recording equipment.
  • How much is it going to cost?
    At Black & Gold Audio, we don’t like to put a price on what we produce without having a talk with you about your project and ideally listening and viewing any material you have beforehand. Consultation is important and a quote can be established from this, prior to making any studio bookings. To do this, contact us on our telephone number/email address.
  • I only have a small budget, can you help?
    We strive to work with and help you and so on these occasions, we are keen to invite you for a discussion about your work, have a listen to the material you have & possibly help you out with a discount. It really depends on what you intend us to produce.
  • Do you do gift packages?
    Yes, we do! We offer several good value gift packages – for more information on what we have to offer please drop us a message.
  • What happens if I need to cancel a session?
    If you need to reschedule or postpone your session, we can change this for you without any extra costs. However, if you need to cancel your session, unfortunately, your 50% deposit will be non-refundable.
  • Are engineers able to help with my session?
    Every step of the session is with one of our engineers/producers to help you through every step of the process.
  • We have a strict deadline to meet, can you work efficiently to achieve our goal?
    We will always strive to work efficiently with you to produce the best quality recordings. We have a lot of experience in this area and have worked with various TV companies and bodies such as the BBC and National Geographic to name a few.
  • Would you have any availability for a Source Connect + Zoom session?
    Yes. As with all bookings we like to have a 2-3 week lead-in. We can certainly accommodate this type of session and have both software and experience to boot, feel free to get in touch to discuss your project.
  • What would be your rates?
    At Black & Gold Audio, we don’t like to put a price on what we produce without having a talk with you about your project and ideally listening and viewing any material you have beforehand.   • If I have my own talent, can I book a studio to record?
    Absolutely! We have two state-of-the-art recording studios available one with a live room attached to it fully equipped with a drum kit, various guitars, amps, stage pianos, and much more.
  • Can I work remotely?
    Yes, with Source Connect and ISDN, we connect to clients and talent all around the world.
  • Do you only use local talent?
    No, we have talent both locally and internationally that can help to complete your project.
  • Do you work with foreign clients?
    We work with clients all around the globe.
  • What is sound design?
    Sound design is the creation of the soundscape of your project. It includes atmospheres, sound effects, and ambiances that form the sonic backdrop of your visual narrative.
  • What is audio post?
    After the production is wrapped, the final step is post-production. In audio post-production, we add all the audio components that complete your project. This could include voice-over, ADR, additional dialog, music, foley, and sound design.
  • What kind of equipment do you use?
    We only use high-end hardware and software that are renowned in the industry for producing broadcast-quality work. If you would like to know which equipment we use for a specific area of audio post please get in touch and we'll send you the relevant spec sheet.
  • How long have Black & Gold Audio been in business?
    Black and Gold audio was formed in 2017, but before this, we were working separately. Some of us have been in the industry for 30 + years now and have a vast amount of experience and knowledge of all things audio-post.
  • Do you fully manage my project?
    Yes, we can if you like. It's all up for discussion.
  • Do you save my project files?
    Black & Gold Audio does maintain an archive backup of in-progress and completed projects. However, once the files have been delivered to the client, there are no guarantees of the files being saved for a selected amount of time. It is the clients' responsibility to save copies of the session files after completion and delivery.
  • Do you work with Freelancers?
    Yes, from time to time we need to bring in expert freelancers.
  • Can you clean up bad audio?
    Absolutely, we have specific software such as Izotope RX and others to meet your request.
  • I have some questions. What is the best way to get a hold of someone?
    Either drop us an email, call our number or simply fill out the form on our contact page :)
  • What type of microphones do you have?
    Lots! We have and use microphones from Neumann, DPA, Sennheiser, Shure, Audio Technica and AKG meeting every recording requirement.
  • What genres do you record?
    Everything, we have writers, composers and engineers that cover all genres.
  • Why don't you list the studio rates?
    Because every job is different and can sometimes cost more than just an 'hourly rate', we like to hold consultations with all our clients before undertaking any work and achieve the best (and correct) rate for your project.
  • I would like to learn how to record and produce music, can you help?
    Yes, we have a diverse range of courses available for absolute beginners to those who are experienced and wish to develop further skills in music and sound production. Take a look at our 'Educate' page for more information and feel free to message with any further questions you may have.
  • I would like to do a course but am not sure which is suitable, can you help?
    Yes, of course, we can help :) We have a diverse range of courses available for absolute beginners to those who are experienced and wish to develop further skills in music and sound production.   • I am interested in working in the industry, what training is available?
    Courses, mentorship, work placements. Get in touch via our contact page, we would be happy to chat with you about opportunities.
  • How often do you start the courses?
    Our qualification courses only run once an academic year, generally, they start in September and completed in June/July. However, we do deliver non-qualification short courses that can be started at your request.
  • How much do your courses cost?
    Our qualification course costs vary depending on the level of study. If you would like some specific costs please get in touch. Our 1to1 studio tuition starts at £30ph, however, we do reductions for several hours in a row.
  • Will these courses give me the skills I need to make my music sound good?
    Yes, you would be learning industry-standard skills taught by industry-standard lecturers/producers.
  • I'm thinking of going to college. Would any of your courses help me?
    Our 1-to-1 courses would most definitely help you progress to a full college course, in fact, our Level 1, 2 and 3 Diplomas are full FE (Further Education) courses like those taught in college.
  • I have written some lyrics but don't have any music, can you help?
    Yes, here at Black & Gold Audio we have experienced producers that can work on a full production track, co-write songs, or arrange songs for you. We also have at our disposal a wide range of extremely talented session musicians that can play on your production.
  • I have a recorded song but want to add to it, can you help?
    Yes, our composers, engineers, and producers can add additional parts to your song(s), if you require session musicians to play on your song(s) too we are able to arrange for you.
  • I need to record some musicians on my track, can you help?
    Yes, we work closely with a lot of session musicians who are extremely talented, we can arrange consolation first in regards to what exactly you want and then arrange the recording session with our engineers.
  • I want to record a full-length album with you, is this possible?
    Of course, and because you’ll be recording multiple tracks with us, we can offer you a discount. Get in touch :)
  • Do you do podcast recording?
    Yes, we do! Our studio is fully equipped and fully capable, voice audio is one of our specialisms. We use only industry standard high-end microphones and preamps to capture the raw recordings, these can then be processed in-house or delivered as is.
  • I want to record but need some guidance with my project. Can you help?
    Yes, our composers, engineers, and producers can guide you through the whole process of completing your song(s), if you require session musicians to play on your song(s) too we are able to arrange for you.
  • I have some tracks that need to be mixed, can you help?
    Yes, this is exactly what we do, we can either use the stems of your song or an AAF file to load and mix project for you, this can be done in a session either with or without your presence.
  • Can you master my tracks?
    Yes, we will have a meeting with you at first to ascertain your desired release/distribution medium and desires, from there we will arrange a session with one of our engineers.
  • I've got a film and I want to mix the sound to the picture, can you help?
    Yes, our in-house mix engineers are very experienced in this area. After a consultation on the project size and factors involved, we will manage the project completion with you.
  • Do you mix in 5.1 or Stereo?
    Both, we are setup to mix for of todays output formats.
  • Can you mix my project for different formats?
    Yes, we can tailor your project to any sound spec needed for final delivery.
  • What is mixing?
    In simple terms, mixing is all about the balance of all audio assets within the stereo and depth of fields. Using processing effects and well-trained ears and engineers will craft a 'mix' best suited to all of the elements within the said project.
  • What is mastering?
    It's a dark art, but in simple terms, mastering is the process of preparing the final 'mix' for its medium of release/distribution.
  • I sing and want to record a song but don't have any material, can you help?
    Yes, we have songwriters, composers, and engineers that can work with you to bring your vision to life, whether it be a cover version or original material, just get in touch via our contact page and we'll arrange a free consultation meeting.
  • I want to sing a cover song, can you help?
    Yes, composers and engineers that can work with you either create a new backing version or use an existing one, just get in touch via our contact page and we'll arrange a free consultation meeting.
  • My company needs a voiceover, can you help?
    Yes, we can! Our studio is fully equipped and capable as we have worked with various voice-over artists before. We have facilities such as a TV to be able to present speech/presentations for the Voice Over artist to read from. We use only industry standard high-end microphones and preamps to capture the raw recordings, these can then be processed in-house or delivered as is.
  • Can you do an ADR session at short notice?
    We can certainly look at it for you, if we have a space yes and if we are able to move something around we will always try to accommodate your needs.
  • Can we record an audio book with you?
    Yes, you can! Our studio is fully equipped and fully capable, voice audio is one of our specialisms, we have worked with various voice-over artists before and produced quite a few audio books in the past. We have facilities such as a TV to be able to present speech/presentations for the Voice Over artist to read from. We use only industry standard high-end microphones and preamps to capture the raw recordings, these can then be processed in-house or delivered as is.
  • If I am a voiceover talent, how can I be considered for the roster?
